Business Support & Advice
Glasgow business reopening register
Glasgow Life’s destination marketing team is asking the city’s tourism businesses to take part in a short survey to learn about their re-opening plans.
Knowing which businesses are now open and ready to receive customers will be crucial in helping plan future campaigns and other vital activity to promote Glasgow to target audiences at the right time.
We appreciate that the past few months have been challenging times for many businesses and that there is much to consider before you may be able to reopen.
Thank you for your support it is vital in helping us maintain this register, allowing us to profile Glasgow to the right audiences at the right time as we move through the different phases of the Scottish Government Covid-19 Route Map together.
We’d be very grateful if you could take part in the short survey so that we are aware of which businesses are already open and which are still in the process of planning their reopening, please click here to access survey.

Business support at the Mitchell Library
As well as containing some of the finest collections available to any public library, the Mitchell Library also provides support for new and growing businesses through the Business & Intellectual Property Centre (BIPC). Rosemary O’Hare, Principal Librarian at the Mitchell explains more:
The BIPC at the Mitchell Library supports entrepreneurs and innovators to start, grow or run a business. It offers access to resources, support from staff and advice from partner organisations as well as an enquiry service.
It is part of the British Library Business & IP Centre National Network and has been developed in collaboration with the National Library of Scotland. Our resources can help with creating a business plan, marketing lists and researching a market - many of these industry standard databases can be accessed from home with a library card. In addition to the databases, our webpages provide access to further resources, webinars and blogs. Since lockdown we have added a Coronavirus Business Support page and the Our Stories section gives some examples of local businesses we have helped.
A recent study shows that BIPC has helped to create 969 new businesses and support diverse entrepreneurs and staff are able to provide user support and introduce users to the benefits of protecting Intellectual Property. We also signpost to our Experts in Residence programme, where our partners provide business, legal, IP and digital marketing advice. One of our key partnerships is with the Business Gateway with whom we now have a referral system – we deal with initial stage business information queries while clients who have signed up await an appointment with a Business Gateway advisor.
BIPC Glasgow’s Power Up project aims to help sole traders and micro-businesses to improve productivity through the confident application of digital technology by connecting them with appropriate digital skills learning and support opportunities. We provide access to an online directory to facilitate fast access to selected free online learning and support opportunities, a collection of useful information resources, advice sessions with digital experts, and an enquiry service to answer digital skills and technology questions. Power Up is an initiative by Good Things Foundation with the financial support of J.P. Morgan.
BIPC Glasgow supports entrepreneurs and innovators from that first spark of inspiration to successfully launching and growing a business. So whether you’re looking to start, grow or run a business, we can help.
